R.S.O.L. & the Status of Reality (2024)
This presentation of The Faculty can be seen as a total installation: R.S.O.L. & the Status of Reality. In it a new wall-installation is shown, Status of Reality 1-4, in which older work plays a new role. It involves photo's from the series with the same title from the Faculty’s journal 'Issue' (ISNN 2666-3317).
Work and materials in different media from the R.S.O.L. archives play a part as well - including drawings from the collection of Deventer Verhaal / Collection Overijssel coming from the plein-air performance in Constructs of Dwelling (R.S.O.L. 2023) by Wapke Feenstra. Using QR codes, visitors can look up further information about works and parts in this installation.
The presentation questions the position of artists within our current economic system and researches the nature and status of contemporary art and art practice in todays society. It shows the physical workplace, the artist's studio on the outskirts of the city, as a metaphor for the artist's place in society. What is the nature, effect and meaning of this outsider position? In dialogue with scientists, similarities and differences between the position of artists and scientists are highlighted.
